Letters Sent Home at 4, 7 and 9 Unexcused Absences
I wanted to let all of our families know that the law regarding truancy changed a bit over the summer in the state legislature. In the past, to be considered a chronic truant, a child needed 18 tardies/absences. Now a child is a chronic truant with 9 tardies/absences. Please be aware of these changes as the district reforms their policies to accommodate this change. At the chronic truancy level a hearing with the truancy officer is scheduled with the family.
Also, with 10 excused absences, a letter will be sent home explaining the need for a doctor's note for each additional absence forward in order for it to be excused.
